A year has passed since the opening in Kazakhstan on the basis of the Scientific Center. M. Aykimbaeva The Central Reference Laboratory, where scientists of the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Science and Education work, the ortcom.kz correspondent reports.
“The work of our scientists is aimed at ensuring the biological safety of our country - at increasing the capacity to control infectious diseases, research on the prevention of outbreaks and the importation of infections in the republic,” said Zhandarbek Bekshin, Head of the Public Health Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the Service central communications.
As Zhandarbek Bekshin emphasized, for Kazakhstan the issue of creating a reference laboratory is more than urgent.
“First. On the territory of our country there are natural foci of plague, tularemia, hemorrhagic fevers, anthrax, the activation of which occurs under the influence of climatic and anthropogenic factors. The incidence of brucellosis, imported cases of cholera, dengue fever is recorded annually. The situation is similar in neighboring countries.
The second. Kazakhstan is actively developing international programs aimed at the development of biological safety and rapid response to outbreaks (protecting people, animals, plants and the environment from contamination / contamination by pathogenic microorganisms), biological protection, and field epidemiology.
Third. Kazakhstan is a country that voluntarily renounced weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical and biological components. Therefore, Kazakhstan, within the framework of the Biological Threat Reduction Program, has eliminated all the existing infrastructure related to the testing of weapons of mass destruction, ”the speaker explained.
The Central Reference Laboratory is a high-tech building with special characteristics - high seismic resistance, tightness and a special system of ventilation, water purification, gas and electricity. All engineering and technical equipment is integrated into electronic control and accounting systems. The staff of the laboratory is a group of 12 specially trained engineers.
“Based on the CRL, vaccines and immunobiological preparations are developed and manufactured for the diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases for the needs of medical and veterinary organizations in Kazakhstan, as well as Russia, Central Asia, Mongolia and the Caucasus,” said the chairman of the Committee for Public Health.
According to him, the center for training specialists in especially dangerous infections for physicians, biologists and veterinarians is based in the CRL. For decades, hundreds of physicians and biologists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan have been trained at the KNTSKZI.
