Industrial potato growing is successfully developing in the region, the ortcom.kz correspondent reports.
“In the Almaty region this year they began to develop a new direction - industrial potato growing,” said Almaty oblast akim Amandyk Batalov in the Central Communications Service.
According to the head of the region, 100 hectares were sowed with elite potato varieties in the Kegen and Raiymbek districts, 2 NFCs were created with the acquisition of 21 units of equipment.
“By 2020, the area of potato crops will be 4.5 thousand hectares, 135 thousand tons of seed material of high-yielding varieties of potatoes will be harvested, which will be sown all the other areas,” he said.
According to Amandyk Batalov, in general, the gross harvest of potatoes is planned to increase from 722 thousand to 800 thousand tons, which will help provide raw materials for the Farm Fritz potato processing plant that is planned to be launched with a design capacity of 70 thousand tons per year.
