Astana will adopt a new declaration that will determine the direction for the further development of primary health care in the world.
At a press conference in the CCS, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov said that in Astana all countries of the world will adopt a new WHO declaration on primary health care, which will determine the direction for the further development of primary health care in the world.
“In preparation for the Global Conference on Primary Health Care (PHC), a mission of experts from the World Health Organization of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) arrived in Astana. The conference will be held in Astana on October 25-26 and will be timed to the 40th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration, ”he said.
As the Minister informed, the upcoming conference will emphasize the importance and significance of primary health care in maintaining public health.
It is expected that about 1200 participants will take part in it, of which 800 people will be foreign guests. The conference also invited delegations from 120 WHO member countries, which will include ministers of health, world-renowned experts, philanthropists and speakers, key nongovernmental organizations, and the first heads of UN agencies.
According to the Minister of Health, on the first day of the conference, a meeting of the Heads of State invited to the conference will be held in order to emphasize the commitment of political leaders to health care through primary health care.
“This is not just a conference. It is about ensuring adherence to strong, equitable primary health care on an ongoing basis throughout the world for many years after the conference and ensuring that no one is left behind — without medical care — through primary care in medicine, ”he explained. .
The Minister also noted that the conference will discuss such issues as: the role of integration of primary health care with other services, the role of human resources and personnel planning, the role of primary health care in managing chronic non-communicable diseases, the problem of antimicrobial resistance in the world, the role of information systems, digitalization and innovation in health care .
In turn, the guest of the press conference, the Assistant Director-General of WHO, Dr. Naoko Yamamoto stressed that in 1978 the Alma-Ata Declaration was the first international declaration that promotes primary health care as the main strategy for achieving public health.
“Other important follow-up movements, such as health promotion, social determinants of health and universal health care, are based on the original principles and values of the Alma-Ata Declaration - justice, solidarity, social justice,” she said.
