As the head of the department informed, in 2018, outpatient medicines are dispensed through pharmacies at primary health care organizations (extract and prescription in one place) in 8 regions (Atyrau, Almaty, Karaganda, Pavlodar, VKO, SKO, Astana and Almaty), which corresponds to the policy of ensuring the availability of medicines and increasing the level of public satisfaction with medical care.

Elzhan Birtanov noted that in the remaining 8 regions (Akmola, Aktyubinsk, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Zhambyl, Mangistau, West Kazakhstan, Turkestan regions), the sale of drugs is realized through retail pharmacies by purchasing accounting and selling of drugs (in the amount of not more than twelve percent of prices of the goods according to the price list of the single distributor and includes the delivery of medicines to the pharmacy).

The minister also informed that in 2019, the West Kazakhstan, Mangistau regions and the city of Shymkent are planning to switch to the sale of drugs through primary health care.
