In the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the past period of 2018, 380 confirmed cases of measles were registered, including 332 cases (87%) among children under 14 years old, said the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chairman of the Public Health Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhandarbek Bekshin in during the press conference in STSK, the correspondent of ortcom.kz.
“In Kazakhstan, from the beginning of the year, isolated cases of measles have been registered, an increase in the incidence has been registered since November of the current year. There are currently 365 cases of measles in Astana, 40 cases in Almaty, Turkestan Oblast - 9 cases, Akmola - 8, Almaty - 5, Zhambyl - 3 cases, Karaganda, Mangystau and North Kazakhstan - on 1 occasion - said J. According to the Chief Sanitary Doctor of the Republic, the average long-term incidence rate of measles in the Republic of Kazakhstan is 0.3 per 100 thousand of population. Currently, the incidence rate in Kazakhstan is 0.08 per 100 thousand population, which is 3.7 times lower than the threshold level.
In the foci of infection, antiepidemic measures are taken, as well as medical observation of contact points, according to epidemiological indications, 1038 people have been vaccinated against measles.
As Gendarbek Bekshin noted, the vaccine against measles, rubella and parotitis in Kazakhstan for routine immunization of children and vaccination of contact in the outbreaks is sufficient.
He described measles as an acute infectious disease of a viral nature, characterized by fever, catarrhal symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sore throat and rashes. Measles is dangerous such complications as pneumonia (pneumonia), bronchitis, encephalitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain), which in cases of late treatment for medical aid and the presence of severe concomitant diseases can lead to death. Vaccination is the only effective protection against measles.
According to J. Bekshin, this year a complication of the measles incidence is registered in the countries of the European Region, where as of November 1, 2018 more than 70 thousand measles cases were registered. Including in Ukraine (more than 40 thousand cases), Serbia (almost 5 thousand cases), France (2771), Italy (2599), Russia (2327), Thailand (2149), Georgia (1471), Israel (1401 ), Kyrgyzstan (448) and others. At the same time, 68 deaths from measles were registered. The growing incidence of measles in Europe is attributed to WHO with low coverage of measles vaccination.
