On May 14, 2021, employees of the Department of Fish Inspection, for the Mangystau Region of the Zhaiyk-Caspian Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate, in the coastal zone of the seaport of Fort Shevchenko, in the territory from Cape Urdyuk to the Bautinskaya Spit area, found 64 dead seals and 5 dead sturgeons types. The carcasses of marine animals and sturgeons were in the stage of severe decomposition, as a result of which it was not possible to take tissue samples for research. Therefore, it can be assumed that their death occurred in the winter period.
Water and air samples were taken from the place where the marine animals and fish were found. At the same time, we want to remind you, that earlier, at the end of April this year, 97 carcasses of dead seals were found on the coast of the Caspian Sea in the Tyubkaragan region.
According to employees of scientific departments, the results of the research, as well as the alleged causes of the death of animals, will be announced within a month after the research. Inspectors of the Department of Fish Inspection for the Mangistau region monitor the coastal zone and other parts of the Caspian Sea. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
