During the recent visit of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerbol Karashukeev, as part of the presidential delegation to Turkey, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Turkish company Iskefe Holding.

The parties agreed that the company would invest in the construction of a gelatin production plant in Almaty. The planned investment is US$ 27 million. The project implementation period is 2022-2023. The expected number of new jobs is more than 100. The enterprise will be launched in the industrial zone. Cattle skins will be used as raw materials.

The construction of the plant is expected to begin this year and put into operation in 2023. The production capacity will be 7,000 tons of gelatin per year.

There are 9 enterprises for primary leather processing in the republic. However, processing enterprises cannot offer agricultural producers a competitive purchase price for raw cattle skins. Small and private farms throw the skins in the landfill, creating the risk of the spread of especially dangerous animal diseases. Moreover, processing of 7,000 tons of gelatin requires about 38,000 tons of raw materials (skins).

It should be noted, that the structure of the Turkish holding includes 7 skin processing plants, plants for the production of gelatin, protein, hydrolyzate, liquid amino acids of animal origin, as well as a research center and testing laboratories. Today, Iskefe Holding is an integrated Turkish manufacturer in the leather industry, which accounts for 6% of the world's demand for beef gelatin with markets in Europe and Asia.
